Johnson Property Group (JPG) are currently developing 640 new residential lots adjacent to the existing Pitt Town village at the foot of the Blue Mountains in NSW. Faced with signifcant costs to connect to a conventional sewerage system, JPG explored other options and ultimately selected Flow Systems to construct and operate a local treatment facility. An added benefit of the local treatment approach is that it enables recycled water to be provided back to residents via dual reticulation.

Raw sewage is collected and transported to the new treatment plant by a pressure sewer system. This eliminates any infiltration and enables the construction of the sewerage system to be matched to the rate of development uptake.

The flowsheet at the treatment plant consists of:

  • Tank to balance diurnal sewage flows
  • Membane Bioreactor (MBR) for sewage treatment and pathogen reduction
  • UV disinfection
  • Chlorination
  • Recycled water storage

Following involvement in the design, procurement and approval of the treatment facility, Permeate Partners continues to provide operational support to Flow Systems for the infrastructure at Pitt Town.
